Aims of project:
* To improve young people’s well being by facilitating their access to age-appropriate information and services as well as the development of life skills that support their successful transition to adulthood* To create an enabling policy and programming environment for youth health development by increasing government/community awareness and action*To increase the number of programme volunteers and interventions within government and civil society that have the capacity to provide life enhancing information and services to young people

Community context:
Volunteer would work on Projects mainly involving young people and adolescents .Most projects are based in Lagos also involving training at the central office in Lagos.

Volunteer requirements:

Volunteer should be open minded, ready to interact with young people mostly in High Schools and Universities and prepared to act as catalyst for change.

Youth Action Rangers of Nigeria

Aims of project:
To build the capacity of adolescents using visual art, drama and dance as a strategy for accelerating the creative involvement of adolescent in HIV prevention.

Activities of project:

YARN is all about empowering young people with information and skills that will help them make responsible decisions about their reproductive and sexual health through information sharing, education, communication, training and advocating for policy change on all issues affecting youth.

Community context:

The community is mainly made up of medium income earners and government workers. We also have some low income earners whose means of livelihood is either small scale business. It is also a populated area, and boasts of all the modern facilities that you can find in the big city. It also has a lot of high schools and colleges of higher learning Yaba is a very safe town.

Volunteer requirements:
Volunteer should be able to communicate in English. 2 female and 1 male volunteer less than 30years. Volunteer should also have a brief knowledge in reproductive health issues.

Volunteer tasks:
Volunteers will be part of all regular activities carried out in the organization. They will be expected to come up with new ideas that will help with mind sharing and better implementation of programmes and activities

Heart of Gold Hospice

Aims of project:
Hearts of Gold Children’s Hospice is the first and only children’s and respite care facility in Nigeria. The house was opened on the 2nd of October, 2003 in response to an increasing number of abandoned, orphaned and sick children suffering from a vast range of congenital abnormalities. The Hospice provides respite support, palliative care, comfort and pain management. For children with life threatening illnesses, the hospice offers comfortable, caring and loving environment.

Activities of project:
The Hospice provides respite support, palliative care, comfort and pain management. For children with life threatening illnesses, the hospice offers comfortable, caring and loving environment. The hospice also provides a day nursery and primary school that caters for the needs of boys and girls with varieties of special needs from the ages of 3-10years.

Community context:
The home is located in the serene part of Surulere in Lagos state. The community is made up of middle class people, government workers and it is densely populated. It also houses fast eateries and a few clubs and relaxation centres.

Volunteer requirements:
Matured female volunteer between the ages of 19-25 is acceptable. The home appreciates the special effort and contributions from volunteers both local and international to the development of the hospice. To further create awareness about the plight and needs of abandoned children suffering from life-limiting and life-threatening diseases some of these children often require life saving surgeries. Volunteers are also expected to help at the hospice with the regular activities like caring for the children and helping with the daily chores. Volunteers that has trained as health worker or have experience working with disabled children or children with special needs will be an advantage.

Volunteer tasks:

The role of the volunteer will be to assist, support and collaborate with the teachers, nurses in the class and home. The volunteer can however be allowed to take a class if we think she can cope, or she already has teaching experience.The volunteer will be doing a lot of creative activities with the children.(drawing, painting, and music.)

Educating and reaching out to young growing children and young adults.

Activities of project:
Training pupils from Nursery to Primary school level so as to contribute to the development of qualitative primary education in Lagos State ·

Community context:

Outskirt of Lagos, very close to the border between Nigeria and Cotonou. The campus is also made up of staff quarters for staff.

Volunteer requirements:

Preferably he or she must have professional and academic qualifications in Nursery education and must love to work with children.

Volunteer tasks:

The Volunteer is expected to teach in Nursery classes of the school. The Volunteer is expected to assist teacher at the class and come up with interesting activities for the children.

Aims of project:
provision of basic education for young children between the ages of 3-18 years old; training of pupils from nursery to primary school level so as to contribute to the development of qualitative primary education in Lagos state.

Activities of project:
Homat Private Schools (nursery, primary and high school) is located on a very expanse land in conducive area in Ikorodu Lagos, Stae. It provides nursery, primary and high school education for children and youth between the ages of 3-18 years old. The School builds basic foundation for education, moral and spiritual upliftments of children and young adults.

Community context:

The community is made up of rural people and average income government workers. It has also small income earners whose means of livelihood is either small scale farming or fishing. It also houses a lot of High Schools and Tertiary Institution.

Volunteer requirements:

Volunteer with good communication skill(English) will be preferred. Volunteer that is also ready to work with children and with a good team sprit will be able to work in the school.

Volunteer tasks:

Volunteer will be assisting a teacher in a class. He or She should be ready to bring up new ideas that will contribute to the progress of the school.

Hosting situation:

The School has a Boarding Facility for Students. Volunteer will be staying with students in the School hostel.

Community context:

Volunteer would work in the Library, guiding blind people. Most projects are based in Lagos. The central Office is in Lagos. Volunteers will also assist teachers at any of the schools for the blind children and homes in Lagos.

Volunteer requirements:

Volunteer should be open minded, ready to work with the blind, approachable, hardworking and computer literate

Volunteer tasks:

Will advise blind person/Guide through the library/Translate from Braille/Facilitate the achievement of the project as a whole

The project is located in surulere which is on the mainland in the city of Lagos. It houses middle and upper class income earners and also boasts of various social relaxation centres. It is a very safe area.

Volunteer requirements:

Volunteer should be able to communicate and write in english. He/she should be above 20years.

Volunteer tasks:

Reporting and Editing of journal produced by the organizatiom. Volunteers will be attending seminars and various fund raising activities to enhance the continuation of the journal production. Volunteer will be required to take part in all the public enlightenment programmes,

Presently in Lagos, we have 14million people according to the most recent national census. Yaba is a commercial nerve centre of Lagos state. The community is a major student area. It also houses schools and 2 major universities.

Volunteer requirements:
Volunteers should be computer literate and be ready to motivate young Nigerians on the use of computer. Volunteers should be able to communicate in English and ready to work with young people.

Volunteer tasks:

Teaching computer education and assisting young Nigerians to work on what they have learnt.
